Cygwin is a DLL which provides a Unix emulation environment for Windows. The Cygwin environment provides a complete port of such development utilities as gcc, binutils, gdb, make, etc., as well as a number of useful utilities. Most Debian application packages depend on other packages, containing libraries or other utilities. When the application package is removed, the dependencies will still linger on the system. The sysstat package contains the sar, mpstat, and iostat commands for Linux. The sar command collects and reports system activity information. This information can also be saved in a system activity file for future inspection. The iostat command reports CPU statistics and I/O statistics for tty devices and disks. The statistics reported by sar concern I/O transfer rates, paging activity, process-related activites, interrupts, network activity, memory and swap space utilization, CPU utilization, kernel activities, and TTY statistics, among others. Both UP and SMP machines are fully supported.

Eliott is a tool to help system administrators and programmers discover insecure temporary file creation, even in closed-source applications. It watches a directory for file creation/deletion/writes using the dnotify facility of Linux 2.4.x . Every change is logged, even temporary files with a very short lifetime. Fcron is a periodical command scheduler which aims at replacing vixie cron,
so it implements most of its functionality. It does not assume that your
system is running either all the time or regularly: you can, for instance,
tell fcron to execute tasks every x hours y minutes of system uptime or to
do a job only once in a specified interval of time. You can also set a nice
value to a job, run it depending on the system load average, and much more.
Changes: This release fixes a security bug found in release 0.9.4, and adds
some options ("strict" and "noticenotrun") to get a better control over
%-lines. The installation process has also been improved and an option
called "nolog" can help to reduce disk access for laptops. There is also no

Replicator is a set of scripts to automate the duplication of a Debian GNU/Linux installation from one computer to another. Replicator makes an effort to take into account differences in hardware (like HD size, video card) and in software configuration (such as partitioning). After the initial configuration, the scripts will create a bootdisk that allows you to completely (re)install a Debian box by booting from the floppy and answering a yes/no question. It works with Debian 2.1 (stable) and frozen (potato). Zebedee is a simple program to establish an encrypted, compressed "tunnel" for TCP/IP or UDP data transfer between two systems. rChains is a detailed, custom, ipchains ruleset that implements many features including most noteably, per host bandwidth monitoring via MRTG, and CGI log reports. bashlib is a shell script that makes CGI programming in bash easier, or at least more tolerable. Atomic beams can act like light waves and exhibit all of the classic wave effects, like interference and refraction. But atoms are usually guided with electromagnetic fields, not the solid materials that make lenses and mirrors. Now a Japanese physicist has demonstrated in the 5 February PRL that very cold atoms can reflect off of a solid surface the way light reflects from a mirror, rather than scattering in all directions. The results provide a new confirmation for the theory of so-called quantum reflection and a rare probe of the long-distance Casimir interaction between the atoms and the surface. But according to the modern microscopic theory of interacting surfaces, it shouldn't exist at all. Now, in the 12 February PRL, a team of physicists has built an analytic theory, backed up with detailed numerical modeling, that may explain why virtually every pair of surfaces lock together and resist sliding. The key is that impurities like dust, dirt, and stray molecules, coat nearly every surface and prevent smooth motion. (Martin H. Muser et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 86, 1295 )
Two new papers offer a detailed explanation for a baffling experiment published three years ago, in which much larger-than-expected amounts of light passed through a silver-coated quartz barrier with tiny openings: namely, a periodic array of 150-nm holes up to 10 times smaller than the wavelength of the light sent through. dhcpcd is an RFC2131-, RFC2132-, and RFC1541-compliant DHCP client daemon. It gets an IP address and other information from the DHCP server, automatically configures the network interface, and tries to renew the lease time according to RFC2131 or RFC1541. Changes: Fixes for compilation with 2.0.x kernels, and addition of 0x0 to the end of ClientID and ClassID options in the DHCP message.
findimagedupes is a command-line utility which performs a rough "visual diff" on two images or a whole tree to detect if any look similar. It can produce output suitable for driving GUI front-ends. It can also export a GQView compatible collection file, so you can deal with the duplicates visually. On common image types, findimagedupes seems to be around 98% accurate. Changes: This release includes bugfixes so findimagedupes now works on Debian and Mandrake 7.2. New features include automatic rescanning if the image database is empty or not present, various performance enhancements, and a new mode that produces output suitable for driving GUI front-end apps.

Mah-Jong is a set of three programs comprising a networked Mah-Jong game, a graphical client for humans, and a basic computer player. The game can be played by four humans, by a human and three computer players, or any other combination. The version of Mah-Jong is that generally called Chinese Classical. It should not be confused with the solitaire games such as xmahjongg. Changes: This release fixes a serious bug in the handling of kongs declared in the dealt hand, before start of play. FreSSH is a free implementation of the SSH communication protocol. It is compact, modular, portable, and designed for security and performance. It is a completely new implementation. Unlike various other SSH implementations already available for Unix, it does not trace its ancestry to the original SSH code written by Tatu Ylonen. FreSSH currently implements SSH protocol version 1.5, with extensions which offer enhanced security when both sides of a connection are running FreSSH.(0.3)

Firewall is a set of scripts (firewall, fwup, and fwdown) that implement an ipchains firewall and various forms of network address and port translation. All you have to do is read the policy file and edit it to reflect your topology and filtering policy. It supports many different types of network topology (single host, traditional forwarding, masquerading, port forwarding, alias port forwarding and NAT), up to 10 untrusted interfaces each with their own policy, and over 50 network applications. IP Accounting Daemon (ipa) allows one to do IP accounting based on IP Firewall or IP Filter accounting rules. It supports limits for accounting rules and limits events as "limit is reached", "reached limit is expired", etc. It also has a flexible configuration file with many sections and options. Changes: A fix for a core dump bug, and a fix for bug when some command in exec parameter wrote to unopened descriptors (for example stderr), then files in the database could be damaged.
The sysstat package contains the sar, mpstat, and iostat commands for Linux. The sar command collects and reports system activity information. This information can also be saved in a system activity file for future inspection. The iostat command reports CPU statistics and I/O statistics for tty devices and disks. The statistics reported by sar concern I/O transfer rates, paging activity, process-related activites, interrupts, network activity, memory and swap space utilization, CPU utilization, kernel activities, and TTY statistics, among others. Both UP and SMP machines are fully supported. Changes: An improved Iostat command which takes full advantage of an I/O accounting patch to display extended statistics (option -x). The default value for the count parameter of the sar command is now 1. A value of 0 will indicate that reports are to be generated continuously. The code is cleaner, and always uses 'double' numbers instead of the INT_PART, INT_VAL, DEC_PART, and DEC_VAL macros. BotNet is a library written in C, intended to assist in development of an IRC bot (or even an IRC client). It provides an easy-to-use model of communication with the IRC server by giving you string-sending functions and by returning messages from the IRC server into events to your application's main(). It also contains functions for easy DCC CHAT and SEND connections and an excess flood protection mechanism. Changes: This release adds CTCP query to channels and an optimized CTCP function, a -D_REENTRANT to configure, a new option --enable-nonstd to enable non-standard ircd compatibility, and a BN_SendPartMessage function. It changes a memcpy to a memmove in botnet.c. It fixes a wrong Tls Allocation in the windows code, a small memory leak when disconnecting/reconnecting, a parse message function, and some bugs that caused segfaults for some non-standard ircds.

ClusterNFS is a set of patches for the "Universal NFS Daemon" (UNFSD) to allow multiple diskless clients to nfs mount the same root filesystem by providing "interpreted" file names. When a client requests the file "/path/filename" , the ClusterNFS server checks for the existence of files of the form "/path/filename$$KEY=value$$". If such a file exists and the client has a matching value for KEY, this file is returned. If the client does not have a matching value or no such file exists, the file request proceeds as normal. Currently supported keys include, HOST (hostname), IP (IP number), UID (user id), GID (group id), and CLIENT (matches any nfs client).

Granulate can split files in situations where GNU split would fail due to insufficient disk space. In order to use GNU split to split a 500MB file, you must have 500MB of disk space free. Granulate can do the same job with only 5MB free.

Hwclock is a program that runs under Linux and sets and queries the Hardware Clock, which is often called the Real Time Clock, RTC, or CMOS clock. This is the program that most Linux systems use to get the time from the Hardware Clock and set the System Time at boot time. This program works on ISA (Intel), Alpha, and M68K systems with or without /dev/rtc. zlib is designed to be a free, general-purpose, legally unencumbered, lossless data-compression library for use on virtually any computer hardware and operating system. The dissociation of NH3 on Si(100)-(2x1) is investigated by a combination of infrared absorption spectroscopy and density functional cluster calculations, revealing that this reaction is governed by a complex set of interdimer interactions involving both bare and adsorbate-covered Si dimers. We propose that such adsorbate-induced changes in the electronic structure of neighboring dimers may have general implications for controlling the two-dimensional ordering of reactions on the dimerized Si(100) surface.
Electron spin resonance (ESR) observation of dangling-bond states on the Si(111)-(7x7) surface is demonstrated for the first time. The ESR spectra clearly show that a reaction of molecular oxygen with the Si(111)-(7x7) surface is associated with the appearance of a new dangling-bond center at unreacted Si adatoms. Most of the oxidized surface sites do not show ESR signals, but in a minor part of the surface another new type of surface defect is detected. The well known Pb center at the SiO2/Si interface is found to evolve at an oxide thickness as thin as 0.3 nm.JRCAT-ATP グループ。
Atomic force microscopy operating in the contact mode is studied using total-energy pseudopotential calculations. It is shown that, in the case of a diamond tip and a diamond surface, it is possible for a tip terminated by a single atom to sustain forces in excess of 30 nN. It is also shown that imaging at atomic resolution may be limited by blunting of the tip during lateral scanning.

Changes: The biggest real changes that impact normal users are the two bugs that could corrupt your harddisk. The IDE driver bug that Russell found has, to Linus' knowledge, never been shown to happen on anything but his ARM machine, but for all we know it could be quite bad even on x86. Similarly, the elevator bug could cause corruption, but probably has not actually bit people in practice. But both are definitely deadly at least in theory even on bog-standard common PC hardware. The reiserfs fix should hopefully make the "null bytes in log-files" problem a non-issue, and along with the smbfs/HIGHMEM thing it is certainly important for those that it can affect. Yabasic implements the most common and simple elements of the basic language. It comes with goto/gosub, with various loops, with user defined subroutines and libraries. asmutils is a set of miscellaneous utilities written in assembly language, targeted for embedded systems and small distributions (like rescue or installation disks). It also contains a small libc and crypto library. It features the smallest possible size and memory requirements, the fastest speed, and good functionality. It currently supports Linux and the BSD family. BeOS and AtheOS support is in the works, and it is possible to port this to any i386 OS. Another goal of this package is to provide a portable source code library, and encourage assembly programmers to write for Linux/UNIX. IPmenu is a curses-based package for configuring netfilter and iptables and Linux 2.4 advanced routing functionality. A two-dimensional model has been used to understand the physics and process engineering issues associated with a conceptual 300 mm Cu internal-coil ionized physical vapor deposition reactor. It has been found that inductive coupling from the coil is the primary source of plasma production. Since the coil is in direct contact with the plasma, a significant fraction of the coil power is deposited in the gas capacitively as well. This results in sputtering of the Cu coil, which tends to improve Cu flux uniformity at the outer edges of the wafer. Since the Cu ionization threshold is much lower than Ar, Cu+ density is comparable to Ar + density even though ground state Cu density is much smaller than Ar. Significant fraction of the neutral Cu flux to the wafer is in the metastable or athermal state. The effects of several actuators, reactor dimensions, and buffer gas on important plasma and process quantities have also been investigated. Electron density in the reactor and Cu ionization fraction increases with increasing total coil power because of enhanced ionization. Total coil power however does not affect the Cu density appreciably, except near the coil where enhanced coil sputtering increases the Cu density. Decrease in dc target voltage with increasing coil power decreases Cu+ loss to the target and results in an increase in total Cu flux to the wafer. Electron and Cu density in the reactor increase with increasing dc target power. This is due to enhancement in target sputtering and consequent ionization of the sputtered Cu. While this increases the total Cu flux to the wafer, ionization fraction is not affected much. It is demonstrated that uniformity of Cu flux to the wafer and ionization fraction can be controlled by means of the terminating capacitor at the coil. Decreasing the terminating capacitance increases the coil voltage, enhances coil sputtering and enhances Cu flux toward the outer edges of the wafer. This, however, decreases the amount of power that is transferred to the plasma inductively, reducing the ionization efficiency. Increasing the coil殆afer distance results in fewer sputtered Cu atoms being ionized as the target膨oil distance becomes smaller than the mean free path for thermalization of hot sputtered Cu atoms. Also, one can control the ionization fraction of Cu flux to the wafer by replacing Ar by Ne or Xe, without significantly impacting the total Cu flux.なんつーなげえ abstract だ。
Ionized physical vapor deposition of Cu in a mixture of three rare gases (He-Ar-Xe) is explored in this article. Results indicate that total Cu flux to the wafer, ionization fraction of Cu at the wafer, and ratio of total effective ion flux to total Cu flux increase with increasing Xe concentration in the gas mixture. This is because of enhancement of electron density and Xe+ ions having a larger sputter yield on Cu than other ions. Increase in He concentration decreases the ionization fraction due to a lower electron density. However, Cu flux to the wafer increases because He is less effective in thermalizing the hot sputtered neutrals. One major consequence of these trends is that one can independently control total Cu flux to the wafer (corresponding to deposition rate) and ionization fraction (a major factor controlling the deposition profile) over a wide range by means of the buffer gas composition.
We present unambiguous evidence for direct, nonthermal laser desorption of molecular ions from the surface of an ionic wide band gap material, single crystal MgO. Using time resolved mass spectroscopy, we measure positive ions emitted during pulsed excimer laser irradiation at 248 nm. Species observed (besides singly and doubly charged Mg) include: Mg, MgO+, MgO, Mg2O+ and (MgO)_2^+. The kinetic energies determined from time of flight measurements are species dependent, nearly independent of fluence, and range from 5 to 9 eV. The ion intensities display strongly nonlinear fluence dependencies, proportional to the fluence to the nth power, where n ranges from 3 to 4. These kinetic energies and fluence dependences support a defect mediated photoelectronic desorption mechanism. Emission is attributed to molecular ion precursors adsorbed at special sites associated with surface electron traps. Emission occurs when the electron trap is photoionized via the sequential absorption of 3紛 photons.この人達もつらいところだろうなー
The electroreflectance (ER) of CuInS2 thin film solar cells prepared by sequential processing is investigated as a function of the process parameters Cu/In ratio and sulfurization temperature in order to get a better understanding of the growth mechanisms. A detailed interpretation of the ER spectra is presented. The disappearance of the ER signal under indium-rich conditions is explained by a superficial CuIn5S8 secondary phase. An additional structure in ER spectra below the band gap energy is attributed to electroabsorption and is explained by the transition between copper vacancies and sulfur vacancies in CuInS2 as identified by photoluminescence. The strong dependence of this electroabsorption structure on the process parameters and the occurrence of the superficial CuIn5S8 secondary phase is explained by phase transitions in the equilibrium phase diagrams of the metal sulfides formed during sulfurization.
We consider the interpretation of some theoretical and experimental work regarding electromigration voiding in nanoindented, single crystal aluminum lines. A recently suggested voiding criterion of a critical accumulated flux divergence is found, in fact, to be identical to the widely accepted critical stress criterion. The inclusion of the stress dependence of the atomic diffusion coefficient is shown to be vital when the steady state is characterized by J0, such as in the case of a void growing at a constant rate. It is found, for example, that the stress required for steady void growth, within single crystal Al lines, is probably significantly smaller than previously suggested.

Fcron is a periodical command scheduler which aims at replacing vixie cron, so it implements most of its functionality. It does not assume that your system is running either all the time or regularly: you can, for instance, tell fcron to execute tasks every x hours y minutes of system uptime or to do a job only once in a specified interval of time. You can also set a nice value to a job, run it depending on the system load average, and much more. Changes: A user used to be able to read a file owned by root if root runs a "fcrontab -u user -e". fcron has had an option "-s" to control the time between two saves of the fcrontabs on disk added. The installation scripts now support FreeBSD and sh. configure's options prefix and without-sendmail have been fixed. Installing an fcrontab by "fcrontab file" wasn't working correctly with relative paths, but this has also been fixed.
GNU shtool is a compilation of small but very stable and portable shell scripts into a single shell tool. All ingredients were in successful use over many years in various free software projects. The compiled shtool program is intended to be used inside the source tree of free software packages. There it can overtake various (usually non-portable) tasks related to the building and installation of an free software package. Changes: A fix for IFS usage in shtool slo, a new "-e sed-cmd" option for shtool install, creation of temporary files, replacement of a few too conservative constructs with more portable ones, support in Makefile.in for the DESTDIR variable, and various other minor adjustments.
Relay Tester is a small program to login to a mail server and see if it allows relaying through it. It sends small emails to defined people if a server is open. This tool is designed to be used by sysadmins who want to check mail servers under their control.
Sudo (superuser do) allows a system administrator to give certain users (or groups of users) the ability to run some (or all) commands as root while logging all commands and arguments. Sudo operates on a per-command basis, it is not a replacement for the shell. Changes: This release fixes a buffer overflow which is a potential security problem.
