ローカルユーザが root になれるセキュリティ があるそうなので、update を試みるも、立ち上げたら filesystem を mount するところで 
VFS: grow_buffers: size=16384
というメッセージが延々出つづける。ううむ。

deja で検索 してみたら、 回答 を発見。 Software RAID のドライバに問題があったらしい。 Alan Cox の 2.2.16 relnote に reverse patch があった。 うーん、どーせユーザは研究室のメンバだけだから 2.2.17 まで待つかなあ(^^;

6/29 に 1.2 がリリース されていたらしいので、手元の TP 600X を更新してみる。 ソース追っかけで mph-0.9.6-17 が入っていたので、 /etc/mph.conf の $asDIRS を

のように書き換えて mph-get update → mph-get upgrade。 190M を小一時間で *1 落とす。 rpm が走るところで古いバージョンの libreadline, libbz, libguile に引っかかって 止まったので: したところ、無事に 1.2 になったようだ。

さらに /etc/mph.conf を errata の方を見るように変更 *2 して、slocate, rpm, popt などを最新/修正版に。

いっぺんリブート。 ファイルシステムが正しく unmount されてなかったらしく、 一度 fsck がかかる。 また chkcondig --del してたパッケージが アップデートによって再び activate されたようなので、 もう一回消す。具体的には canna, skkserv, lpd。 もっぺんリブートして X も起動... うん、大丈夫っぽい。 netscape が 4.73 になってたりして、ちょっと嬉しい。 開発者の皆様に感謝。
*1: 実は squid のキャッシュがいっぱいになって、 キャッシュディレクトリを入換えたりしてたのは内緒だ(笑)
*2: この辺は Bugtraq に突っ込んであるんだけど、まだ反映されてない。

Hydroxyapatite を TiO2 で修飾した試料を wet → hot hydolyze で作成。 TiO2 の光化学反応で分解したいものを HA に付着させる、 という方向を目指しているらしい。ふーん。

CaF2-MgO の共晶を RF 加熱炉を使った Bridgeman 法で生成。 電子顕微鏡で構造を調べている。 CaF2 matrix に MgO がファイバー状に埋めこまれているかたちらしい。 光学方面への応用を視野に入れているみたい。

IMO, "yes". The existing tools work just fine and can generate all
acceptable formats/variants. The DTD is acceptable albeit sparse.
I think it would be ridiculous to turn away new or updated content
just because the SGML is not DocBook.

Yes, I think that's correct, although it does leave a few extra goodies out. If you just want to write and parse SGML, then you don't even need that much, just the DTD, and parts of Jade. If you want to create HTML or other output, then you need the stylesheets.

SNOM の理論。STM との analogy で、 sample, tip の間の EM field がまず scalar func φ で表現でき、それは propagating な term と evanescnent な term とからなっているとする。 この式を導出するにあたって、 Bardeen が tunnel current に対して発展させた wave func. が weak coubpling している場合に有効な matrix 表記と 似たような書き方が SNOM の場合でも有効である、という主張。 sample, tip の transmission coeffs. を用いたそれぞれの wave func Ψs, Ψr をを用いて、伝達 matrix element が 同じように書ける、ということらしい。

FreeBSD jpman プロジェクト の成果物を JM を通して公開させていただけることになったので、 システムをいじるためにブランチを作る。 結局 CVSROOT/modules に

        JM/ChangeLog JM/JM.rules JM/Makefile JM/Makefile.dist
という定義をすれば良かった。 ディレクトリを先に書かなければいけないことに気付かず、しばらくハマる(T-T)。

JM の作業をやらにゃならんならんとおもいつつ、 どうにもクソ暑いので、汗を流しながら *1 、買い込んでいた宮城谷昌光の「奇貨居くべし *2 」 1〜4 巻を読み耽る。 うーん早く続きが読みたいが、 1 年待たないと 5 巻は出ないか...

#4 [linux] i810 チップセットを搭載したPCへの Vine Linux 2.0のインストールについて

研究室で 3 台 i810 の PC を買って、Windows との dual boot にしようと目論んでいるので。 この辺の内容は Kondara でも使えるのだろうか。 あるいはいっそ Vine を入れてみるか？ いずれにしてもネットワークインストールは無理そうだな(^^;

UU 7月号のおまけ CD があったんでインストールしてみる。 X は上記 URL に従ったところ実にあっさりと認識、 ネットワークチップも Realtech RTL 8139 を勝手に認識。 うーん、これほどインストールが楽だったのははじめてだなあ *1 。

まだ gnome 使ってないんで、藤田さんの 日本語メッセージ化け はわからないけど。うーん、 でも Netscape はバッチリ日本語で立ち上がりましたよ？

#2 [linux] Konadra 1.2 の NFS インストール

先日 Vine を試した ばかりだが、休日でネットワークも空いているだろうと言うことで、 Kondara-1.2 の iso イメージを落とし、NFS インストールを試してみる。 イメージは ryukoku.ac.jp の方からいただきました m(__)m

持ってきたイメージを、まず NFS サーバで loop を使ってマウントする。 
mount 1.2-i586.iso /mnt -t iso9660 -o loop
こういうときのため、カーネルのビルド時に loop は module ででもコンパイルしておくのが吉ですね。 無事にマウントできたら /etc/exports をいじり、 rpc.nfsd と rpc.mountd を再起動。

あとはインストールするマシンを bootnet.img から立ち上げ、 通常通り手順を踏むのみ。dhcp と nis の鯖があれば非常に楽ちんですな。 ただ Everything を選んだら、2h 近くかかると *1 言われてしまった。 3 台だから、こりゃ今晩一杯かかるな。
*1: うちの LAN はまだ 10M なので...

#3 mail trouble?

なぜか今日朝からメールが届かない... と思っていたら、 学科のメールサーバ (FreeBSD) での転送ができなくなっていたらしく、 queue に一杯たまっていた。 ログには
Jul 20 17:30:34 apdrelay sendmail[64121]: RAA64120: to=nakano@surf.ap.seikei.ac.jp, delay=00:00:02, xdelay=00:00:00, mailer=smtp, relay=surf.ap.seikei.ac.jp., stat=Deferred: Name server: surf.ap.seikei.ac.jp.: host name lookup failure
と出ていたのだが、別に DNS が死んだ形跡もないし...謎だ。 よくわからないまま sendmail のプロセスを立ち上げなおし、 sendmail -q したら無事転送。その後は問題ないようだが。

My idea would be putting the following hierarchy in a

man/
(...)

We could just provide link for dirs (for ex,
/usr/man/man1 to man/man1) or for files (for ex
/usr/doc/XXXX in txt/XXXX) or put plain files in that
dir, as you suggested.

The LDP currently uses its own set of tools, the linuxdoctools
(the former sgmltools1) since docbook is not considered ready to use.

It's easier to add what we want in working tools (sgml2pdf, sgml2rpm for
ex) than waiting on docbook to be usable by each of our authors.

However, we have a team working on the docbook integration within the
LDP (docbooktools), and we provide docbook output from the current
linuxdoctools documents.

In the future, when docbook will be considered ready for production use
we will support both linuxdoctools and docbooktools, after which all our
documents will be in docbook.

Docbook documents are already accepted, but they are separated from the
linuxdoc HOWTOs.

I think whatever happens, we still must maintain a degree of flexibility in what we accept: linuxdoc, docbook 3.x, docbook 4.x, docbook XML, etc.
